Main Street Program

La Grange Main Street hosted the Texas
Main Street 2013 Summer Conference.

A tremendous effort on the part of La Grange residents established the Main Street Program in the town of La Grange.  True grit, dreams and historic preservation of buildings and revitalization of economics lie at the heart of the Texas Historical Commission’s program.

The Historical Commission provides technical assistance through retail display consulting, marketing guidance, financial counseling, training of the Main Street Manager, and pro forma analyses.  The facade paint program provides free paint to qualifying property owners in the Main Street area.  A revolving loan fund provides below-market interest rate financing to businesses that qualify for assistance with more extensive renovation work.

As the primary supporter of a major historic preservation effort Main Street La Grange stakes its future welfare on history.  Business development remains an important function of Main Street La Grange.  The Main Street Program seeks to improve the business climate by making historic structures more attractive and serviceable.  Through customer surveys, Main Street La Grange seeks to uncover the untapped consumer market and recruit businesses to meet those consumer needs.  Specialty retail and necessary shopping retail establishments create destination shopping for local customers as well as tourists.  Visitors also want to study history and culture, some only want to consume it.
